Japanese Performing Artists in Canada: Private Performance, Penticton, BC, Canada:

On September 20, 2009 three professional performing artists (Akiko, Sachiko, and Kimiko) put on a private traditional Japanese cultural performance at the Patrick Family home. Sachiko began the performance with a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. While Lester explained the history and philosophy of the tea ceremony to the Canadian audience, Akiko assisted her sister during the ceremony and then the audience had the chance to drink the Japanese green tea and eat the Japanese sweets (which were just delicious!). Akiko and Sachiko brought their tea ceremony equipment, tea, and sweets all the way from Japan for Canadians to enjoy which was greatly appreciated by everyone in attendance.

Following the tea ceremony Sachiko played a couple of tunes on the Japanese shamisen, which was very moving, and then Kimiko did an entertaining demonstration of the "Nankin Tamasudare" which is a traditional street performance popular during the Japanese Edo Period (about 200 years ago).

Akiko and Sachko wrapped up the performance with a traditional Japanese fan dance. Dressed in their stunningly beautiful Japanese kimonos they did a wonderful dance which left the audience wanting more and more!

The Patrick Family would like to extend their deepest appreciation toward Akiko, Sachiko, and Kimiko for putting on this private performance at the Patrick Family home. It was a very entertaining insight into traditional Japanese culture, and everyone felt honoured to be treated to such a first-class performance!
