Origami and Calligraphy Workshops

  • On May 3, 2008 our guest performed a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in the Japanese Gardens in Penticton. We also arranged for Japanese koto playing and origami and calligraphy workshops during the ceremony. This event was held in recognition of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Japan. The tea ceremony was a huge success and visitors had the opportunity to drink the "matcha" (Japanese tea) and sample the tea ceremony cakes and sweets. Over 100 people attended the 2 hour ceremony, and a brief description and historical account of the tea ceremony was also explained to the visitors. All proceeds of the event went to the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services, and we would like to extend a warm "Thank You!" for all of their support and assistance. The Japanese tea was donated by Time For Tea, a wonderful tea shop located on Main Street in Penticton. We would also like to thank the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan and the Consulate-General of Japan in Vancouver for all of their support.

We are accepting guests for 2008. For further information please fill in our form here.
