April 2011 – Japan Disaster Relief Fundraiser

The Japan Disaster Relief Fundraiser was held at Cherry Lane Mall in Penticton on Saturday, April 2 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The fundraiser was co-sponsored by the Penticton-Ikeda Sister City Society and The Salvation Army Penticton, and more than 35 volunteers helped out during the day. Photos and information displays of the recent disaster lined the tables, and visitors had the unique opportunity of learning to make Japanese origami and trying their hand at Japanese calligraphy. There was also an enormous banner which visitors could sign offering their support and encouragement to the earthquake-tsunami survivors. The fundraiser was a huge success – The Salvation Army kettle collected $8,873.32! All funds have been sent to The Salvation Army Japan and their relief efforts. A big, big “Thank You!!” to the very kind & generous people of the South Okanagan. You are the best!
