On November 16 the Salvation Army held a “Community Kitchen” and the guest instructor taught everyone how to make Indian “pakora.” The Community Kitchen was held at the Salvation Army gym and kitchen in Penticton and it was a huge success. The class was full and everyone had a great time learning to make (and gobbling down!) these wonderful, nutritious delights.
What is a “Community Kitchen?” A Community Kitchen is not a cooking class or a pot luck party. A Community Kitchen is way of bringing people together in the community who wish to “stretch their dollar” by learning to make nutritious, home-cooked meals for their family. Instead of spending money at fast food restaurants or buying pre-made items at grocery stores (both expensive and unhealthy) Community Kitchens teach people to come together as a community by sharing recipes and cooking ideas and help one other save money on their food bills. Community Kitchens are popular in many cities and towns throughout Canada and around the world, and this is the first time one was held in Penticton.
