March was a quiet month except for some great hockey news. The Detroit Red Wings held 2 practices in nearby Kelowna on March 17 and 18. At the last minute, I took Matthew to the practice morning and we had a great time. There is a big connection between Kelowna and Detroit. The Wings’ coach, Mike Babcock who coached the Canadian Olympic team to the Gold Medal, played for the Kelowna Wings in 1982. Also, the Wings’ General Manager is from Vernon (near Kelowna) and the Wings’ head scout lives in Kelowna. It was a lot of fun watching them practice and it was interesting to see the players relaxed and having a good time on the ice while, at the same time, showing off their amazing skills.
