December 2010 – 10,000 Tonite

On December 2, Penticton’s high school students and staff organized “10,000 Tonite” which is the annual food drive in Penticton. The high school students went door to door in Penticton asking for donations to the Salvation Army Food Bank. Earlier in the week paper bags were sent to the households with a message asking for donations of non-perishable items for the 10,000 Tonite food drive. What does “10,000 Tonite” mean? Well, about 12 years ago the first food drive had a goal of collecting 10,000 non-perishable items for the Food Bank. Over the years this figure has climbed into the neighbourhood of 18,000 items. Last year the food drive was hosted by Princess Margaret Secondary School and this year the food drive took place at Penticton Secondary School. It was a very, very busy (but fun!) evening and it brought the students, staff, and community closer together by reaching out and helping those less fortunate in Penticton. This year will hopefully see fewer people go hungry in the community.
