I decided to redesign the website and, along with it, add a new blog. This is a WordPress blog and it has taken me a while to learn how to set it up and get it going. I think I am ready to launch so here goes!

I am in the middle of learning all about “online social media” (Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc) and how I can use this media to promote our business and make some good connections in Canada and Japan. It is a real challenge (I’m an artsy, not a techie!) but I love learning and trying new things, especially anything computer related.

What got me started down this path? Well, I went to a social media seminar in Kelowna last month. It was organized by the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, and they were targeting people in the arts and tourism industries who were interested in using social media to promote their art and businesses. The seminar sounded interesting – I was already using Facebook and Twitter but just for personal use – so I attended.

Well, the seminar was a real eye-opener. I always thought I was one of those people who kept pretty close tabs on the online world but I had no idea of the growing popularity of social media; especially with regard to the business use of Facebook, Twitter, My Space, etc. By the end of the seminar I was hooked and bound determined to use social media to network and promote our business. There is a lot to learn but it is also so interesting to see how online networking is rapidly changing the way we connect and do business with people.

Over the next few months I will be making changes and additions to the blog so please be patient if you see anything which doesn’t make any sense. I am a newbie at blogging and WordPress, and newbies do newbie things sometimes!
